Sara Gilbert's Darlene wasn't gay, but she became an icon to the LGBTQ community. Darlene Conner wasn’t queer, but for the subset of the show's audience that was—myself included—she felt.

As a teenager, Gilbert dated her Roseanne (and later The Big Bang Theory) co-star Johnny Galecki (their characters also dated). During their relationship she realized she was a lesbian.
