"Gays in the military" became a political issue during the Presidential campaign, when Clinton, the Democratic candidate, promised to lift the military's ban on homosexual and bisexual people.

More than former U.S. service members who were kicked out of the military for being gay will automatically have their discharge status upgraded, the Pentagon announced Tuesday.
